Introducing - Retribution! The Champion Chronicles: Book One

Retribution
by
M. Flagg

ISBN 1-60154-551-7

Dreams often reflect hidden desires . . . even if they are terrifying. Michael Malone, a unique creature of the night, has taken down three evil sorcerers. He’s not successful.

Faced with eternal suffering, a compassionate soul helps this Champion create an intricate fantasy until he can be rescued by the Georgian Circle. His tale of passion and suspense is tinged with many truths. Eternal devotion to a Guardian of Souls and a troubled teenager forces this mystically enhanced vampire to dream of survival.

He yearns to be in Alana’s arms. He vows to protect Lukas, his mortal son. As he confronts his guilty, undead life his imagination runs wild. But Michael begins to lose hope, believing that there is no such thing as redemption. Why did the commanding Champion jeopardize his own immortality? Michael Malone has two very good reasons. One is revenge and the other is love.

Short Excerpt...

Wounds streaked his gaunt cheeks. Wavy hair matted with blood. Slashed chest, arms pierced several times—hours of fighting plunged the Champion into weariness no human could endure. So be it, I am ready. One swift stroke of a silver blade across my neck and I turn to dust and bone. My soul will burn for all eternity.

Michael's thoughts turned to the woman he would always love.

My Guardian… my love, from the first moment I saw you, I was yours forever. I couldn't tell you about this. I couldn't put you in danger again. His fading mind turned to the motivation behind his vengeance. Lukas, my precious gift, I have always loved you. I promised myself that the bastards would pay!

This vampire could thrust and parry with the best swordsmen of any dimension. He had centuries of practice. Michael raised his blade for what he figured would be the last time. The weary Champion felt a strange sensation, as if an impermeable shield covered his vulnerable heart.

“Is it finally over?” he shouted to the clouded heavens. “I signed away salvation a year ago! Have I at least made amends for some small fraction of my past?”

A resonant “no” echoed through the vampire's conscience. No matter how many good deeds he did, a special spot awaited him in Hell.

Who Is M. Flagg

I am a writer, a reader, and music teacher. I have two books contracted with The Wild Rose Press, Retribution! and Consequences in the paranormal romance genre. Previously, I am published in the field of urban music education.

My incredible journey into writing took a lifetime of fractured events. Born and raised in northern New Jersey, I spent the first nineteen years of life in the florist shop that my father had. This makes me an original flower-child before the 1960s began! When Mom purchased a piano for my sister, my destiny was revealed.

A love of learning led me to a degree in Music Education, which led to the study of acting at RADA in London, which led to a masters degree in teaching, which led to a supervisors certificate, which led to an M. Ed. in Educational Leadership. Although tempted, the doctorate is on hold . . . for now.

Bringing the love of music and fine arts to an entire K-8 school in an urban setting is a daily joy. And accompanying a church choir conducted by the talented woman who taught me music in high school is an additional pleasure.

While pursuing certification as a principal, I wrote many journals and educational essays. One professor called me a writer and I quickly replied, “Nah . . . I’m a music teacher.” But once the intense course of study was completed and after many changes in my life, I began Retribution! Passion sharpens one’s creative edge. The love and support of my children, my family, and my friends encouraged me to take a chance and pursue a dream.

As a writer, what type of stories do you Write or Read?

All three of my novels have a strong theme of redemption. What good is a dark, brooding character if he cant find his way to love and happiness? As a reader, I've always been a sucker for the happy ending. But I enjoy reading a well-plotted journey.

As a reader, what is your favorite genre, writer?

Favorite genre? Do I have to have one? I love sagas. I've read every Taylor Caldwell novel ever written. Rice, Clancy, Ludlum, McCullough, or Michener - writers with depth and a good story to tell holds my interest.
A book You CAN Judge by It's Cover!

I love the cover! It is really great. I wanted to read it the moment I saw it. I think the woman at the bottom of the book cover looks beautiful and profound, somewhat calm, but knows she's in danger. The little boy, with Angelic eyes, adds great intensity to your metaphor. The eyes above gives a taste of why they seem exposed and in danger. Of course the title is very alluring as well.

It all fits just right and tells me it would be a well-invested time reading a book that sits behind this very powerful and intense cover. It looks like this might indeed be a book that reads you!

The freedom to write so freely in a free land is such a wonderful thing. It is something to be cherished lest it be whittled away to finally be axed to death until we die for what believe. It would not be the first time, or the last. That is why I feel that there is nothing greater than writing & creating something from nothing. It's the closest thing to the divine! The freedom to say what we believe is not some men or women bequeathed unto us. The ability to create worlds and personalities, to describe something so powerfully it can make the reader laugh with joy, shiver in fear or cry in sorrow and empathy and to then breathe into them the breath of literary life is a gift from God; a process that starts in human imagination and comes to life on the printed page. It is the thing that separates us from the rest of creation! It is exactly what God did when He stepped into nothing and created something that lives and breathes!

The genre of stories I have written and the views I have expressed in my books are an intense effort to say something about my current society and to perhaps warn Pluribus Unum of the things that threatened the life we now have. I consider my books to be hard-hitting stories that may frighten the reader, as a result of the realism and the plausibility of the evil unleashed on an apathetic and ill-mannered world when faithlessness falls upon the just and the unjust.

Since I have traveled widely around the world, I have been privileged to possess the ability of giving a fair accounting of the life we share on this part of the small globe we call home. I also know how easy it would be to see liberty all blown away into the sands of time to only be disinterred by a yet to form people far different than our own. So, the stories that flood my mind are to help us stop, perceive, reflect…perhaps alter our actions and cause us to look at where we are, where we have been and determine, perhaps with more clarity, where we are going.

I am an ever growing, constantly learning, very dedicated writer. I try very hard to not only write about today as I also seek to point the way in which today’s lifestyles, whatever they may be, shall either take us towards a reasonable position of faith and unity or shall shove us headlong into a pitiful humanity where man is reduced to mere trouble, scarcely meriting bread and water, such as in the case of Terri Schiavo. Remember her? She could be you…me…any of us, in a world that makes human life so cheap that it renders death itself as the sole solution, with dignity.

My novel, Nimrod Rising, reveals a world on the brink of, not simple decay, but ready to totter into massive rage unleashed unto the vanquishing of a nation, having lost all of its protective layer, when a whole nation's faith is done. We have not yet driven our society into the ground. Yet, I wanted to show those, who care to look and comprehend, how ignorance and apathy confide.

I would like to attach a very recent review of Nimrod Rising. In her review, Yvonne Perry does a great service to the depth and reality of this novel. I have personally spent 12 years writing this novel. Nimrod Rising is actually three complete novels representing a seamless trilogy, in one volume about a world not just in peril, but in free-fall, in grave danger of obliteration. The following book review for which I have placed the link below, gives the reviewer and readers impression of the book. It is a certainty those who have ridden the storms of our stories along with us most often who can give the best appraisal of this Treatise on America, Nimrod Rising. I think you'd find it is as real as it gets. Thank you for enduring my enthusiasm for a book that I think will take one's attention and keep it to the very end.

Some of us have become well known while we still write. Many of us will not be discovered until well after we have graduated to a higher calling. Yet, all of us want to leave behind a written account, a treatise of sorts, of what we valued, how we thought and what we believed. That is our legacy so that many others after us may gain a perspective on our hopes and dreams and fears, in the day in which we live. That is why I write and that is what drives me and that is my passion! I bet you can relate. Thank you for your time, which has really enriched my hope to get Nimrod Rising into the hands of dedicated readers like yourself. It’s as real as it gets!

"One thing I asked myself throughout the book is: Is the story fiction or is it true? One can only hope it is fiction, but the evidence paralleled by world events says there’s a good chance that what we are seeing may really be the end of the world. But, who knows?"
